What to Do in an Eye Emergency?

An eye emergency can be scary and stressful, but it’s important to stay as calm as possible. Visiting a medical professional as soon as possible is essential for protecting your vision. 

In the meantime, you can do the following to care for your eye health and vision in an emergency:

• Wash your hands with soap & water before touching the eye area
• Blink to try & remove any debris in the eye
• Flush your eyes with cool water if chemicals enter your eye

You should never attempt to remove a foreign object in the eye, rub or push on your eyes, or administer medications during an eye emergency. Avoid taking out your contact lenses unless chemicals get into your eyes.
